We're on a mission.
To help people communicate in new and surprisingly simple ways.
Who We Are
Pinger develops apps that help businesses and individuals cost-effectively communicate through their mobile phones. Millions of customers use our flagship apps Index, Sideline and TextFree, to conduct business and stay in touch. We’re headquartered in Silicon Valley (San Jose, California), with remote offices throughout the United States and Europe.
Our Core Values
Love what you do.
Life’s short. We take pride in our work and have fun doing it.
Keep it simple.
Always work to remove complexity from our products and workflow.
Do what's right.
For each other. For our users. For our company. ‘Cause it’s the right thing to do.
Win or lose together.
We embrace the process, own our mistakes, and celebrate successes.
Be the customer.
If we don’t love using our products, how can we expect or convince our customers to?
Empower the underdog.
Everything we do must be designed to enrich our users’ lives, or they simply won’t care.

Our Story
2005
Pinger Established
Our founding team (including a mannequin wrapped in Christmas lights) sets out on a new and surprisingly simple mission to build Pinger’s first app.
2007
Our First App
We started with an overly-ambitious app called the Pingerphone that taught us a valuable lesson in simplicity. So we focused on what people loved most: free texting. And boy, did we have a simple name in mind for our second app. Around the same time, Apple announced the iPhone and we knew it was on.
2009
TextFree Launch
TextFree debuts in the all-new App Store as one of the world’s first free texting apps. Overnight, it becomes the #1 way to stay connected without a carrier plan.
2012
We Hit 100 Million Downloads
As a new generation embraces texting as their primary form of communication, we support TextFree’s growth with the technological backbone and infrastructure of our communication platform.
2015
A Trend Emerges
A growing number of people begin adopting services like TextFree as a roundabout way to get a second number. Intrigued, we learn who is doing this and why. A few light bulbs later, Sideline is born.
2016
Sideline Launch
Sideline is released with a slew of new professional features, patents, and reliability improvements to give people a second number that works like their first.
2018
Meeting a New Customer
We tour the country talking to Sideline users—an inspiring mix of small business owners who all share two common needs: time and money. So we started building communication tools that give them more of both.
Now
Revolutionizing B2C Communications
Mobile professionals need specialized voice and messaging tools to help them start, run, and grow their businesses. So we’re reimagining business-to-customer communication—in new and surprisingly simple ways.
